Looking at the first one, what I would have done was focused on the bench and then used a shallower depth of field so that the bench springs out of the shot. In my opinion it looks a little flat at the moment.
I do like the second one and really like the b & w on both.
2nd ones better dof wise but I really struggle to see any interest in shots of a bench I am afraid. Black and white conversion fine - but adds little really as it lacks real subject. If there were textures / carvings or somethign but on it`s own it does nothing for me - sorry.
Re:black n white mrcrow - what software do you use? It should be pretty straightforward. Don`t just desaturate - use channel mixers in mono and look at brightness and contrast
