I've been coping with RF602s (think that's the model) for remote triggering another body and the odd bit of remote flash work. However I'm looking for greater range and reliability so thinking of PWs.

Can anyone enlighten me on the main differences between the TT5, Plus IIIs and Plus IIs. I see that the Plus IIs are more expensive than the Plus IIIs which I thought were newer!

You're running out of range?! How far, under what conditions? Most people find the RF-602 very reliable too.

PW's TT5 is part of their auto-TTL Mini/Flex system, and very clever it is too if you need those benefits. Plus-2 is a transceiver version of the original transmitter/receiver Plus triggers, all-manual like the RF-602. Plus-3 is an updated version with zone controls and stuff, but still a basic manual trigger. They're expensive because they're made in the US, and the main reason to buy them is reverse-compatability if you already have a stack of older PWs.

IMHO, best manual trigger is Phottix Strato II. Range is huge, and x-sync unaffected, plus a few other nice features. New Yongnuo 622 auto-TTL triggers are also good and amazing value. But all these things are designed as flash triggers primarily. You might be better off with a remote control camera trigger.

Thanks for the reply and the helpful info.

The only thing I can think of is as soon as the battery starts to loose a little power then the range starts to be effected. I used it at a football match and it worked fine across about 30 yards - next match, a few weeks later when I wanted to use it again I tested it with the receiver and transceiver almost next to each other and it worked fine. Placed the camera behind the goal and didn't get one frame from about 20 yards!

I'll replace the batteries and try again, which I think worked last time, before I look more into PWs but I just don't have a great deal of confidence in the ones I'm using at the moment.

Something's wrong there. I've tested my RF-602 at over 100m, and plenty of others have done the same. Conditions have an effect, and maybe some local interference, but you should get way more than that.
