Pocket Wizard TT5 and TT1- Manual Yongnuo Flashes

Really stupid question, so apologies but I just want to make sure I am 100% right.....

I use a couple of yongnuo 560 flashes in my work, if I was to add a TT5 to each of them and maybe the control function that would sit on the TT1 my hotshoe I wouldn't be able to control the power/zoom of the flashes remotely.....would I?????

My understanding would be that I would have to have a couple of TTL enabled flashes to make use of the pocket wizard set up in this way.

...if someone could confirm to me either way that'd be great.

You could control the ETTL exposure i.e. increase flash exposure, but no other manual control, I should imagine that if ETTL transmits flash zoom then yes, it should be possible.

I don't have the same setup, but rather guessing from my experience of using PW, and since your flashguns are more or less like Canon's.

But you don't get any in-camera control anyhow with PWs even if you were using Canon flashes. And unless you have an AC3 unit, you can't control ratios either.

No, the YN-560 is fully manual flash.

You'll need the YN-568EX or the new, smaller YN-500EX for remote controlling... the latter paired with the new YN-510 looks quite interesting btw...

thank you both. I will definitely check out the YN-500EX and the YN510.

I use my 560's completely manually and really enjoy doing so off camera however, it would be nice to be able to control their power from the camera when time doesn't allow be to chase round.

There's a rumour re. the "unknown" mode setting in YN560-III, that Yongnuo has an upcoming transmitter that allows remote power settings...

Oddly the Manual control settings on the PW Flex system give the flash instructions via the ETTL communication system. So even ETTL flashes should be on ETTL to take instructions.

That would be spot on for me, I hope it's soon- I just couldn't justify the cost of having to replace my speedlights to TTL versions and have to go down the pocketwizard route.
