David Hobby has been testing them as well, I still reckon that by the time these finally hit the shelves in Nikon form people will be born with cameras built-in :lol:

Costwise they'll probably be the same as the Canon version, so £200-250 per unit

I'll believe it when I see it :(

A couple of months to release in the US........ maybe (but not holding my breath) but add on at least a few months more for availability in the UK.
 
aye, and these ones won't have RF issues because the issue there was with the canon speedlights, not the pws themselves.

This really is something that nikon and canon should both be developing their own solutions for though, instead of extra expensive plugin bits and pieces with extra dials etc...

I'm still waiting for a directional SU800 commander-unit to replace the OK-but-only-just model that I'm currently using...

Oh wait - it's called the SB600...lol

aye :(

in a pinch, can always bash the SU800 on the end of a ttl cable to get it offcamera to point in the right direction, or if you've got flashes to spare, use one in repeater mode.

These are all solutions to a problem that shouldn't exist though :@

yeah, but for £250 I can buy a mint 2nd-hand SB900 instead of the single-use SU800...(the one I'm currently using belongs to 'Work'...).

A new iTTL cable is on the shopping-list to replace the old grey TTL one I've been using since 1998, however...

Fair point, there was £130 of a difference when I bought mine. The other issue is that the SB900 as Commander will still contribute (even if it's just slightly) to the overall exposure, even Nikon acknowledge this...

if you are positioned close to the intended subject (i.e. taking shots of something on a light table) even this small amount of flash can easily be seen in the resulting exposure. If you have a lens hood fitted, you may also see a shadow when the lens hood obscured the path of the flash.

Noted - my work mostly consists of portraits indoors and outdoors using Lastolite softboxes on stands, so this won't be an issue...when I do work close-in, the very slight 'fill' from the on-camera flash isn't entirely unwelcome...

Also, for the time-being, I have access to the Nikon R1C1 close-up and commander kit (which I pinch the SU800 from when I need it...)...
