pocketable tilt flash for fuji X

It takes AA batteries, a huge plus! This flash seems to have a full list of features, some only found on range-topping flashguns:
- Support Stroboscopic mode
- Remote control slave flashlight
 
This might be a bit late now that you've hit the buy button but you can always send it back!!!
Somewhere deep inside the X-T1 thread one guy (Barrysprout?) had one of these but couldn't get on with it because it didn't want to work with an OCF cable.
Don't know if that's relevant to you but if it is you might want to set a few days aside to trawl through the thread for more details.

He settled for the Nissin i40 which I also have. This works OK on an OCF cable - even my cheapie from Jack The Hat.

Cheers for the info, OCF capabilities not an issue for me with this flash so I think I will still give it a chance, I was all prepared the get the ef20 and then seen this one.. Just something to have with me family get togethers/parties etc..

righty cannot give thorough review as only got camera and stuff today and only got the 18mm at the mo, when I have 50mm length I will be able to do more of a portrait test..

build quality of flash is excellent and its the best battery door I have ever known on a flash(pic with it on camera, the meike sticker, thats the batt door).. comes with everything in 1st pic, flash talks to the camera perfectly whenever I change setting on camera it displays it on flash screen.. initial thoughts are well worth the money.. did a quick test of my youngest in the garden facing into the shade(no PP). as I say will do some better testing when I have other lens.. I haven't even messed with the camera yes..

little bit more testing now I have 50mm to play with, absolute bargain flash well chuffed I cannot see me wanting more, I think the longest I am going to go with this camera is 85mm and I reckon it will serve that no probs...

oh and I only clicked on last night it swivels too... i thought it only tilted.. :confused:

One of the many great things with the flash as well is that you can charge batteries inside it using a micro USB, great when traveling!

As mentioned earlier in the thread, I bought one earlier in the year for a holiday. My plan was to keep it to use on an OC3 lead for macro shots, but for whatever reason it just won't communicate through the lead.
So not a fault with it and when used as designed I would highly recommend it. A bit late now that you have it :D
 
I see you've also got a X-E2, any reason you had to buy a more powerful flash? Why not just use the pop-up flash and pull it backwards with your left hand?

I had to buy a more powerful flash because I wanted more power from a flash.... plus now I have it I like that it supports off camera flash in commander model..

I think even if I didn't need more than the cameras GN 7 flash power I would absolutely never adopt that practise.
 
Thanks for this. I was thinking about an i40 for my Olympus PEN 5. But instead I've just ordered one of these. Seems incredible value for money.

Well I hope I haven't steered you in the wrong direction.. It is excellent lens full stop IMO the price is a real bonus.. And that battery door is tip top, you will see what I mean when you get it and compare it to every other flash battery door you have had.
 
Mine arrived today and wow. Packaging is very impressive as is the quality of the device. Recycles much quicker than I thought on just two generic Costco AA batteries.

Very promising for the money. Not sure why I would want to pay 3x as much for the i40. Great tip. Many thanks.

Excellent and good comment RE recycle time.. I wonder how many have been put off this flash because of its price? Sometimes something can be too cheap.
 
Interesting! Although it appears to lack zoom and doesn't swivel as much as the i40 it seems like a smaller lighter option which is kind of the point of this system.
