Pointers on shooting first air show

I will be shooting my first air show this weekend and was looking for some pointers. I have a 600D with 70-200 2.8 mark 2. I also rented a 2x extender. I really don't know if that was the one to rent but I had no time to research it and it was cheap. If I should use the other one please let me know because I'm pretty sure I can still change my order if needed. My thoughts were to use shutter priority to keep things simple but I'm not really sure what speed to go with. I really hate noise in my pics so I don't want to just raise the shutter super high to cover myself at the expense of a high iso and noise. The other thing I really would like to do is panning. That seems extremely tricky and I have no idea on where to start a baseline shutter. When I have research in the past I get a lot of very different ideas. I know that there are a lot of factors so I will set a baseline to see how everyone would approach it. Distance - 150m, light bright day, subject going straight across field of view (perfect world). Sorry this is so long. Thanks.

I forgot to mention that I used a circle polarizer on the 200 to clean up the reflections and make the clouds look nice. Is this a good practice?

Here's is a good start -

Regarding the 2x extender, you'll lose 2 stops of light, which may impact. A 1.4 may be more benefical, but would depend on the focal length you'll require. Also the circular polarizer will lose at least 1 stop of light so need to take this into consideration also.

I knew the polarizer would loose some light but I didn't realize that the extender would loose light also. Why would a 1.4 ext be more beneficial?

You'll lose 1 stop of light instead of 2. As with everything, in photography, it's about making compromises to get the desired elements that you need to work.

Another very important tip (learnt this one the hard way :'() take plenty of fully charged batteries. Don't want to get there to find out that the batteries, in your camera, are flat and that the replacements you have are back at the house!
