Hello All

Just curious to know if anyone on here has experience with Linear polarizers?

I want more than my CP's will give me and I am curious to know if a top notch Linear Polarizer will give a better effect than a CP...

I have 2 top-notch Hoya CP filters but when I see the difference my polarized sunglasses make the CP's look rather sickly by comparison.

Way too stingy to fork out U$ 100 OR SO TO SEE THAT I GAINED NOTHING...:naughty:

Sorry, my mistake. CPL will make it black when you look through it the right way, and LPL can do it both ways. It doesn't matter once the filter is on the lens.

There should be no difference between the polarising effect of a linear and circular polariser. I have got both and certainly can't see anything, and I've looked hard.

Which isn't surprising, because a CPL is just a linear polariser with a quarter wave 'circularising' plate on the back so it doesn't upset the metering and AF systems. The polarising effect is of course entirely dependent on the amount of polarised light about. Sometimes the sky can actually go black.

And on the metering/AF front, my linear polariser does upset the exposure a bit but try as I might I can't get it to throw the AF on my Canons. Your mileage may vary.

B&W or Heliopan? And why?

Is price the final and ultimate indicator?

Hoya HD. Best CPL out there, check it out ;)

Price is not a bad indicator, but there is always an additional 'German' cost to factor in.
 
CPL is out, want to get a linear.

The Heliopan is a wee bit more expensive (2.5x the price) on average than the B&W...

At U$ 265.00 ex B&H it had better be damn good...
