Been asked to shoot my sisters wedding later in the year, and the idea came to me today to take a Polaroid. As a back-up, of course, just for something a bit different. I guess the idea comes from seeing wedding photos of yesteryear, like those of my parents, where they've been snapped on polaroids, or have that general vintage quality. There's something quite cool about it....but that's not what I'm wanting to discuss.

I'm just wondering where/if I can pick up a cheap polaroid that works, and what I should look out for. Don't really want to get one (and I am talking cheap, I'm pretty skint!), then spend £20 on film only to find it's a knacker.

Any advice?

My sister would go ballistic :)

I've seen plenty of cameras around in charity/junk shops. I think film will be the biggest problem...where would you get it these days? If you did find some, wouldn't it be years out of date??:(

Pick up something like an Olympus trip 35, zuiko lens and its an auto compact. Lots of fun and no problem with film.

:lol: It would be purely a back-up, firing off a film or two, in addition to all the other photos, rather than part of. I could even give it to someone else to shoot, but I kninda like the idea.

I'm now thinking the Lomo route would perhaps be easier though. I'm sure that will upset the purists, but hey ho :D As I say, it's just something extra..a bit different.
 
Why not just take a printer and digital along, we had a works end of year ball, I took a simple printer along and half way through the evening printed of some pictures, then put them on the wall and people took them home with them.

i would love to try a holga or similar but with them being in fashion the price might be a bit too high if you are looking to go really cheap. ebay could come up trumps though.

i would really go digital for a back up though if she is relying on your pictures dude. if you are going to be the main photographer you will have a fair bit of pressure resting on your shoulders, even if you were to borrow or hire a second body it would be preferable to a film camera. the hassle of having to use different speed films for different circumstances would be a pain, and the cost might mount up over the course of the day.

if you aren't the main tog by all means try something a bit different, but all sorts of photoshop actions will do the lomo thing for you without the risk.

It's not the most usual circumstances. I'm not a wedding photographer by any means - never done one. So with that in mind, there'll be a few people taking pictures, though I've no idea who at this moment in time, and I think the expectations are resting on me...just with a bit of backup.

It'll essentially be a week long event abroad, so I'm not looking to cram all this in, in a couple of hours. And my dad and brother will both have dSLRs with them, so plenty of kit there should it be needed for whatever reason.

The film idea would just be for a few snaps when I'm not taking photographs. As I say, it could even be given to someone else. It's not something I'm worried about in terms of detracting from the main images. The main images are a separate worry altogether :lol:

Holgas can be had for about £25 UK eBay, you wouldn't get 20 Polaroid shots for that price

I shot a crimbo Party last year at Madame Tusards, and for their initial drinks reception they wanted me to shoot poloroids of the guests with the wax works so I could give them the pictures instantly - it was great success, and I think it would be equally successful as a fun element at a wedding.

I used a cheap basic fujifilm instax and fujifilm (poloroid style) film, so the image size was about 4x4 inches, search for Instax film - think mine came from 7dayShop.

You say you want the print quality, but don't want to discuss it, so I don't know whether it's instant prints; the look of the camera; or having a camera you can hand to anyone or all these factors that are important.

Post processing styles may be all that's needed. A borrowed LensBaby could be another option.
