ive just watched meridian news , about a raid on a jewelers in brighton ,an officer was being interviewed ,she said that they know that a few people were taking photos in the area at the time , and are hoping that someone will come forward if they have any pics that might help them. any takers ??

Help them the same way they help us take photos in peace without being accused of being a terrorist...I think not.:shake:

If I had pictures with a potential criminal in i'd be more than happy to hand them over

Valid point but taking some more theiving scum off the streets is never a bad thing and giving the victims who were probably terrified some closure makes it surely worth handing over a few snaps.

Just imagine the headlines

Criminal arrested after help from a non terrorist photographer

The rags would be sold out in seconds.

At the same time with out justice system the crims either get off or a get a light sentence and come after the hobbyist photographer that dobbed them in.

But if we all gave up on the CJS then we would be a a much bigger mess. Sure it has its problems but without it we would have a whole lot more to fear I think. I have met my fair share of high and mighty bobbies but I have also met quite a few that were nice blokes that really wanted to make a difference. I'd guess that the average decent bobbie on the street is even more frustrated by the scum walking free than we are!

Be funny if they nicked any photographers who came forward for being terrorists, probably get more questions than the robbers. Wayne

So have you or frank ever been questioned by a police officer, I haven't :shrug:

Yes, been questioned more than once, but the main gripe I have with them is a friend of mine came across a lone copper getting a kicking from three guys, he stepped in to help the copper on the ground and ended up in hospital himself for three weeks. Not once did anyone from the local cop shop turn up to thank him for his efforts in trying to assist the copper or even enquire about his health. To me that sucks big time, it was only when a newspaper told the story that they started to show any interest.
Although I've not been in that position myself but I have had occasion in my job to make a 999 call quite a few times over the last 30yrs, each time it always takes around 20 min to arrive on the scene if your lucky, even though the nearest cop shop was less than 5 mins drive away...hard lines if you were getting your throat cut.
No time for them at all unless it benefits me.

Sounds like you have been unlucky frank, I had a WPC sit with my wife for almost four hours after we were broken into as she was very upset. Sure she may have been of more help somewhere else but I assure you she was a bit of a hero in my eyes!
It seems to me if society insists on slating the police across the board we are asking for trouble! We ask them to do a tough and often dangerous job only to call them rotten at the drop of a hat! Turn the police force into a unappreciated organisation that we tar with the same brush and its not hard to see why some of them have an attitude! Not singling you out as I have been known to mutter under my breath also.

Before you answer this question, ask yourself what would you do if ever you had all your lovely, expensive, took years to build up, what will I do without it, photographic gear nicked! who's side would you be on then? eh?:police:

After i sold it to a newspaper i would hand it in.:D:):lol:

I had exactly that last year, luckily we think they may have been disturbed so that's pretty much all they got away with. The police were really good dusted for fingerprints etc. I got paid out by the insurance company then the police caught the thieves along with almost all of my gear.
I have no problem with the police although some can be little Hitlers.
If you had been robbed, attacked etc you would hope someone would come forward.......wouldn't you???

It's like so many other things in life where a minority give the majority a bad name. It's an often thankless job but admittedly there are some who make you wonder if we are living in a police state. Cooperation is the way forward - don't let the bad few drag you down to their level.

the criminal justice system is turd (presuming they're the people who set sentencing and such)

watched the thing on tv about knifing the other week where 3 guys for no reason decided to punch and then stab a couple of 21 year olds and one of them died

if i remember correctly the guy who did the stabbing got 15 years of which he'll apparently serve about half...15 years in my book wouldn't be long enough for a start even at full term.

so yeah the CJS can suck my balls basically

</rant>
</going off on one>

random double post - but yeah sorry about having a bit of a blow out there ^^ :D

and by the CJS i don't mean the police and yeah i'd help out as i'd want the same done for me

Peoples experiences will vary greatly, my local St John ambulance station had a large gang of yobs smashing the windows with stones, when one of the members rang the police they said they couldn't come till Thursday, this while they were still breaking the windows!
The average response time around where I live is at least 20-30 minutes, even though the stations about 5 minutes drive away. To be fair they are under staffed, we have a "community" bobbie, trouble is we share him with 2 other areas, (one a small town) at best he's only ever in our area a half day a week. Wayne

I thought we had all universally condemned those who give away photos for undermining the rest of us...

So, perhaps SELL them to the Police at NUJ rates :rules:

:lol::lol::lol:

I doubt photos would help the polis......when my car was nicked they couldn't find it for two weeks. I eventually discovered it myself.......parked in direct view of a Police cctv camera, where apparently it had been since the day it was stolen :suspect: :police: :thinking: :lol:

I'm with Frank. It's a two way street, metaphorically speaking. Perhaps if the police felt a few more politicians collars the crime rates would plummet, starting in the House of Lords.

Best post in the whole thread :lol:

Where I am typing from now I can see a cctv camera. It is pointing down the bus route at the end of the street where I live. In the 3 + years it has been there I have never seen it pointing up our street. Last week, one of my elderly neighbors was robbed (by cowards) and when the Police radioed the cctv control they said they had no pics of the scene. This has happened with several incidents in the area. So obviously, big brother is NOT watching me! What a waste of money!

Personally I would be really happy to provide any images free to the police if I (or they) thought they could be used to detect crime. I would be really disapointed by any tog who wouldn't help out if they could.

However, I would love to see the headlines if just down the street a Police Officer or PCSO was busy performing a Sect 44 on a tog for taking photos and it only comes to light following this :lol:
