My circular polarizer is probably the least used piece of equipment in my bag. Though for landscapes with your wide angle I'd imagine it'd be used a lot more. Nice for removing haze and water reflections.

there was a thread on here about 6 months ago now where someone used a CPL on a 10-20mm lens and the edges of the sky were nearly black and held no detail, turned out the CPL couldnt cope with such a wide angle because of how they work... i wouldnt recomend them tbh...

Circular polarisers are great for saturating colors such as greens and blues, creating contrast between clouds and blue skies and will also help eliminate reflections from water or glass. They will also block up to about 3 stops of light so can work as a lowish strength ND'ish filter.
Regards the dark corners, on a lens like the 10-20, if used at small aperture you can get vignetting - the solution is to shut down the aperture or use a thin mount filter - or both. This will help eliminate these problems.
I'm no PS expert, but i'm not aware of a quick computer fix that will achieve what a polarising filter will.

I use the Heliopan thin frame no problems on my Sigma 10-20.

Using a polariser with an UWA needs a lot of care, and it depends what you're using it for - once you go ultra-wide you're covering a large chunk of sky and the polarisation effect will vary across the frame.

at the wide angle end you get a polarizing effect without anyway, so would not be a good idea (for landscapes)
20mm end should be better though.
As has been said, can give very bad sky's if not used carefully.
Ok for reducing reflection etc

I've got a Hoya 77mm PRO1 Digital Circular PL Filter. It is quite expensive but seems a quality bit of kit with the multi-coated optics and low profile frame.

I'll use it for longer focal lengths and macro.

Agreed. I have the same one and the results were not good. Severe vignetting.
