poloroid filters

ive got myself a screw in poloroid filter,now if i look at it with my monitor in the background and turn it, you get varying degrees of opacity, going from clear right though the scale till you cant see through it as it should be.

my question is does it have to be set at a specific place for it to polarise the picture properly, if i look through the viewfinder whilst looking at my computer screen as i say you can see the difference but not when looking at anything else

Out in the fieild, you should be about 90% to the sun. Turn it and you will see the skies go a darker blue.

Or when looking at water turn it and you will see the water reflections vanish. There is no specific set value, just turn it to get the desired effect.
