45 minutes ago mrs wheels woke up needing the bathroom. Seeing as I had been awake since half 12 And just lay here I asked if she would be so kind as to bring me the laptop a screwdriver and the bits I removed frow it ie the hard drive and the memory. between us it took us nearly half an hour to put things back together. Lynn plugged it in for of and since then its sprung back into life the charger is still getting red hot I have just watched bizarre er on player and so far its doing just as it did before it fizzled out. Lets see how long it lasts if its more than an hour and half. :-). it might just have got too hot if this does it each day i can manage that each evening. ps Darren we unlike you have no screws left over :-)

Maybe it getting too hot will stop you spending so much time on forums :D

Wont be on at night thats for sure, and since I came back from the Drs, Mrs wheels has taken the kids pc out of their bedroom to sell. I have give it a dust and wipe down and now it wont switch on (yes it did work before she brought it down) so now I have 2 towers and inner workings and 1 16 inch monitor I was going to sell towards new machine for me whilst in bed, now its going to be given away as repairs or spares :bang::bang:

Thats why phones should just be phones more spelling mistakes than correct words.

do you have a quilt or other fabric like under your laptop when you use it ? this usually causes over heating, try a lap tray or some other form of hard surface so that airflow can still be achieved under the laptop through the gap between the surface and the laptop feet.

Andrew its not the laptop thats overheating its the power adapter between the mains and the laptop thats been doing the burning. I always make sure the vents are geting plenty of air, and you can hear and feel the fan inside running.

Today the laptop has been on its cooling pad, not switched on cos I cant find the male to male usb lead, for 8 hours connected to the mains on the dining table the power adapter I left it hanging from the top of the table so that wasnt near anything, and it still got very very hot. No battery charge or life in the battery died within 5 mnis.

Hi Julian,

I have a quick question as I am in the business of Laptop Batteries and Chargers.
Is this the original charger for your laptop. The reason that I am asking is that if the charger is not powerful enough for the laptops requirements it will overwork and get very hot.

In other words you laptop may need a 90W adapter but you may only be using a 65W or 75W adapter.

Maybe if you could let me know the following I can take a look for you.

1. make and model of your laptop
2. On the label on the bottom of the laptop. What is the Input Volts and Amps
3. On the lavel on the bottom of the adapter. What is the Output Volts and Amps.

It sounds to me like you may be running an aftermarket adapter as most don't come with built in fans.

Hi Elliot the adapter says its a replacement, it was with the laptop when we got it, the laptop is an acer aspire 7730. Mrs has taken the laptop back upstairs so the table is clear for her and kids meal in a bit. So I cant get the details you want until the nurses come and put me back in my cot :dummy:
