Hi looking at doing a bit of home portraits of kids etc. Just wondering what is best to use for back ground etc. Ent got any lights at mo just a flashgun. Was looking at a popup background. What do you people think and would you suggest getting better lights. If so any ideas?

Thanks

You can take nice portraits with just a flash gun but it really needs to be off camera and shot through a brolly/softbox. A couple of lights is a good way to start but you will quickly find you are limited and a studio set up makes more sense.

Pop up backgrounds are great. A low key set up may work best just for the number of lights you have. If you want to go highkey, you need more.
