Pop-up flash stopped working on my D70

Bit odd last night. Went to take a quick snap of a few ill-fitting carbon panels on my CBR last night and rather than run back into the house and grab the flash I decided to just use the pop-up one on the camera and it just wouldn't fire. Tried it through P,S,A,M modes and did nothing, even rolled it round to Auto to see if I'd messed something up but still no flash. Reset the camera, checked the flash mode through the menu and it should fire, but no dice. Normally I'd stick an SB-600 on the camera rather than use the on-board one, but when my partner uses it she likes the pop-up ability. I bought it 2nd hand and have never noticed (or paid attention) if it worked when I bought it, should I go with the hassle of getting it fixed, or maybe even try and fix it myself?

I wouldn't recommend trying to fix it yourself. Try contacting fixation and they'll give you a ballpark figure for fixing it so you'll know if it's worth sending it off for a proper estimate and repair.

Alternatively, pop it in to your local camera shop and ask them for advice about having it repaired. It if is just something you are doing wrong (although it sounds like it's not) then they may spot it.

This is a very common fault on the d70 and there's loads of on-line tutorials and videos about how to fix it, it's a very easy fix that isn't worth paying someone else to do. There's a good video here of the d40 which also suffers from the same issue

Thanks guys. I can't view the vids in work, but I'll have a gander when I get home tonight.

Sorry to raise this one again, but I'm only getting round to fixing it. The video above is for the D40 but it appears that the D70 is slightly different. Where the guy pulls the tab over the black plastic lug, the D70 doesn't have that. I can manually hold the tab out so that the 2 metal connectors touch and the flash works, but there's nothing there to keep it that way once I let it go. Anyone any further ideas, or would someone do me a huge favour and pop the flash cap off their D70 and let me see how it looks on a working flash, please.

Here's a pic of what I mean,

If you find out what bit you need, I've got a broken (and I mean really broken) D70 here I can pull the part off for you.

Legend. By any chance, could you pop the cover off your spares one and see what its meant to look like? There doesn't seem to be any broken lugs and there's no rattles to be heard, seems a bit odd.

Actually, there's not need to, I've discovered how to fix it. The grey coloured plastic has clipped itself off the flash and needs pulled through so that it'll mate with the metal tab.
