Hi there,
Booked the day off yesterday and headed to Silverstone for the first day of the WEC/ELMS event.
Friday was largely free practice day with the teams taking full opportunity to set their cars up for the start of the 2013 season. It was a special day as it marked the debut of the all new Porsche 911 / 991 RSR with two cars being run by a new factory team headed up by Olaf Manthey. One of the commentators reckons its the first time we have seen a full Porsche factory team in Sportcar racing since Le Mans 1998. When quizzed about the RS Spyders that ran in LMP2 for a couple of years he confirmed these were never classed as a factory team having been run by Penske.
Exciting times, and I have to say the cars looked stunning and given the drivers who are part of the team this car is bound to win races as pretty soon I think.
Here are quite a few pics, sorry of they are a bit samey but I shot from the public areas having decided not to apply for a press pass this year. Thankfully Silverstone are pretty accommodating and have cut some nice little camera holes at certain points around the circuit.

The car was pretty quick in free practice easily sitting in the top three in the LM GTE Pro category.
Hope you like the pictures. C&C welcome
