Yes, and it does incremental backups, so that after doing the first BU it only stores new and changed files.

So you would recommend doing the back ups via time machine ?

It’s not likely to be plugged in to the laptop all the time. Only when I am using it. Is that ok ?

Done a full back up and by heck that took some time. Like lots of these things it wasn’t as simple as I imagined.

Yes, for a mac. I used to leave the drive connected when at work, set for hourly backups, but if you don't need that then once per week is adequate.
