I'd be grateful for any views on portable power.

I like the idea of solar panels but don't like the cost and potentialupheaval/redecoration, though I don't know how much upheaval there would be.

I've looked at some portable power options.

For example, this - https://uk.jackery.com/products/exp...MI7tTmgZ6ilAMVU5tQBh0fCwrsEAAYASAAEgKkFvD_BwE

and there many others too.

Although something like the above(with a solar panel) is not cheap I thought it might be a decent investment.

It, and the others I've seen, can be charged from solar panels or mains which, as we get cheaper electricity at night, might be an advantage but I'm not sure how much.

The one in the link has an output of 1500W which means it would not power a kettle but could be used for a microwave and TVs.

I realise these portable power sources are intended for, understandably, locations where having portable power is handy but I thought they might be useful in a domestic situation.

Any thoughts will be welcomed.

Thanks

Dave

Unless utilising the portability advantage, I'd be more inclined to get a proper home battery storage solution. It might be more expensive upfront, but long term it will be a more integrated and versatile solution. Likewise, it can use the cheaper overnight tariff schemes and if desired have solar connected up at a later date.

There's a good webpage here: https://www.ecoflow.com/us/blog/home-battery-vs-portable-power-station

Don’t get the one you’ve linked too, way overpriced and poor specs.

This one has 2000w output but will stretch to 3000w surge. It has the same capacity. It can also be bought cheaper when on sale. I picked one up recently for £460. https://amzn.eu/d/01n9BCeh

I have it as a standalone off grid power supply in my garage. It powers the garage light and some external lights and you can plug in a hoover/power tools etc. It’s hooked up to 400w solar panel which keeps it topped up.

£900 seems high for the output, Anker do similar with slightly better specs, the C1000 for £700 https://www.ankersolix.com/uk/products/c1000-gen2?variant=52275113886032&ref=naviMenu_1_1_2_2_img
Or the even bigger C2000 for £1100

I have and use for work an Ecoflow 2 with about the same specs, got it via Amazon market (as was) and it's brilliant. It was 'refurbed' but it was spotless and works perfectly.

These things never put out as much power for as long as you might like/or they might claim but better to have something than nothing.

/Edit - Actually Brazo above has posted the same unit for £100 less so..
