I'm off on my hols soon and want to take a 1GB portable drive with me. I will have my Macbook with me, but it only has 512GB of SSD storage in total, and with me & the wife expecting to be shooting a lot while we're away, I feel I need a suitable storage device.

I don't mind if I have to plug it into the Macbook, or if it can just "download" directly for the card or camera. I just want to make sure I have a back up and enough storage to see me through.

All advice gratefully accepted...

theres a wd drive with wifi and card reader and battery i think, which i forgot about when i ordered a 2tb samsung portable usb3, which actually has been great, gets 70meg per second easily and sustains it, quiet too

might be worth packing a mouse and/or usb extension too, the included cable on my drive is short.

other option is a small usb drive that sits in the usb socket, sandisk make one.

and finally flickr do a uploader program, itll check folders and upload new pics, so if you have wifi you can backup to there too

No need for anything too fancy. Put a laptop hard drive (SSD if you're feeling flush!) into a USB enclosure and plug it into the laptop. I got mine from www.cclonline.com/ at a sensible price.

It looks like a couple of 128GB USB sticks maybe the way to go. Not clever, not high tech, but cheap and will do the job.....

normally the price of usb sticks is close enough to sd cards to be moot
and you need to check read and write speed too, some do like 120 read and only 20 write

Ended up with a Seagate 1TB drive, which is powered off the Macbook. USB3 is faster than wireless, and at £60.00 it made sense....
