So I haven't needed a USB modem for a long time but while away recently I saw a pretty useful bit of kit that I'm considering getting for my next trips especially if I make a long stay trip at the end of the year.

My host had a tp link mr3020, with a USB modem from his local electrical shop, paying about a tanner a month for pretty decent Internet. The wifi capability made me really think how useful it could be

I've saved a couple of models to my to do list

TP link mr3040/ mr11u portable wifi

Anybody have experience with these?

Also which USB modem is best for compatibility and reliability? I see the make Huawei a lot on here. But you guys have way more experience with this than me.

I don't want To get one and find its not great with the router.

And one final, dumb, question... Wherever I go.. i.e country I just get a local Internet only sim and stick it in the USB modem and voila?

I use the new midi from Three.

All on one device (modem and wifi router) with around 8 hour battery life I believe.

We have contracts with work and pay £9.99 +VAT a month for 15Gb.

Works really well
