i have recently been offered a small photography job and im going for an interview in two weeks, i realise that i need about 2o pictures and so ive been up all day and night working on them. i know find out i havent got a portfolio case which i desperately need. at the moment i found a small a5 display book but that is no good because its too small. is a 10x8 inch print big enough for display and what portfolio cases can you recommend me?

btw my budget is only like £20.

I can sent you a brand new Portfolio case for that if you are interested, I think they were A3 ones, we bought a job lot of them. If you are interested let me know and I will check on the size. They are the zip up ones with a handle in executive, top pro black

i will consider, though it was more of an a4 case i was after.

look forget about considering it. These portfolio cases retailed at £99, my offer is retracted, I was letting you have one cheap to help you out

Not sure why you turned that down - seems like a great offer from artona...

its not the case size i was worried about, it was the fact of trying to afford for a3 prints. it will cost me £2.50 per 10x8 so i dread to think how much an a3 is. also i was never given a price so for all i know i could had to pay £75 or somet.

If you did not know the price then why did you not ask?

You said your budget was £20, I said I would do you one for that ---- meaning that price, you know £20!

Your answer might have been thanks, can I come back to you or no thanks or fantastic, thanks for helping out a youngster.

You being a youngster is why I offered you it for the money you had available, heck I might have even offered to do the prints at cost price for you if you had asked

Ah - that explains it. When you said 'for that' I read it as meaning 'for that purpose' but you meant 'for that price'.

I'll bow out...

You wont get a better offer than that

To be fair to the OP though, when I read artona's first post I'd didn't read it as he was happy to sell it for £20 either. I think anyone would have taken that offer in a split second (including me), as I've been looking for a good A3 size folder and I know thy aren't cheap!

your best bet is to print to A4 and then mount onto A3 - A4 portfolios are a bit useless IMHO and mounting prints is the best way to get them looking just tip top and also brilliant if you have different sizes of pictures, so you can print at the proper size but mount all to the same size (and mounting is not expensive) A decent quality portfolio case is bloody hard to come by and as a student i can tell you right now that finding a cheap one is also really hard :(

@ Artona, if you wish to give something, give it freely, comfortably and happily, or dont give it at all. This person has alot on their plate and your inpromptu ego massage is probably the last thing he needs right now. You should be more clear both in yourself and with other people, either you are prepared to give or you are not, i am thinking you are not but you want people to think that you are.

Good luck with the interview, its clear you are making a real effort and i totally empatheise with that, do let us know how it all works out :) x

Just shows how wrong you can be then doesn't it. I saw the request and made the offer to help a youngster in his quest!!

the best thing to do is to make a window mount, its easiest with a guilotteen though which you might not have access to, if i were you i would get some double sided sticky tape, some well cut bits of white card and just make sure they arent wonky, it will make your images look 100 times more professional and it doesnt cost much :)

@ Artona, this isnt an age thing, you can bleat on about 'us youngsters' all you like but although careless, the OP was certainly not delibrately rude which you certainly were. It was a lack of communication and there was no call to make anyone feel bad or remorseful for it. He didnt mean to upset you, hes just busy with stuff, your motives are purely ego based, pull yer toys back in the cot and have a sweetie or something dear :p

I'm inclined to agree... Just a little clarity when you offer something and then there can be no misunderstandings.

Good luck with the interview, Feeb has offered you some excellent advice

no problem mate, i managed to score myself an interview at The Salisbury School of Art (which has an unbelievable photography department) and in preparation i spoke to my friend Gina in a simlar manner - i.e totally skint and wanting to make a really good impression. She explained to me about cheap mounting and it just totally made my portfolio stand out from the others and i managed to get on the course :) It shows you have made the effort more than most and that you understand the importance of presentation un stuff :) best of luck with it matey we are all behind you :) xx

You are not listening feeb, try harder, my motives were not ego based but I think yours are, listen to your own advice and heed it, especially the last line.

If the OP misunderstood what I was saying and I misunderstood his comment, which I took to be rude and off-hand then I have lost nothing but he has lost a cheap portfolio case.

As much as you are not listening you are not reading accurately either. When have I "bleated on about us youngsters" as you put it. I said I had offered to help a youngster. Now go away and stop stirring things

But you are still left with a load of unwanted A3 folders, so really you have lost out on a sale too buy not explaining yourself properly and then not saying "fair enough, just let me know if you decide you want one". You was pretty rude in your second post just because he didn't bow down and kiss your feet at first chance.

That really is rubbish, you are assuming too far too much. I do not want to sell the portfolio cases, we use them as site sellers for our staff, we never bought them to sell on.

I did not expect anyone to bow down at my feet but a thank you would of been nice and in my world show much better manners rather than I will consider. Anyway all of this is pathetic so I will leave you all to it

Well I have read this and thought Artonas offer was excellent and quite clear to me.

If someone offered me something like that when I needed it quick I would ''kiss his feet'' lol
