my son in law has a canon 450d and is looking for a portrait lens can some of the canon men reccomend a decent lens

The 50mm 1.8 is very hard to beat for the money (under£100)

Agreed with the 50mm 1.8, It's barely ever off my camera during portrait sessions and it's super budget friendly.
