A mate of mines missus has asked me if i could get a few shots of my mate and his daughter so she can get a decent shot to frame for fathers day. The tricky bit is she wants it to be a surprise and i have no idea how to create a situation when me whopping out a sizeable camera and snapping away wont raise suspicion.
What also wont help is the fact that he is currently restoring an old car so is always wearing greasy old t-shirts and his daughter will no doubt be running around with half chewed jelly babied in her hair so even if i can come up with a valid reason for turning up out of the blue it will be a waste of time.

I have also been asked to come back, maybe in a month or two for an organised shoot of the whole family. The best i have come up with so far is organising a time to pop over for a quick 'practice' session as they know i am still learning. Possibly i can blag that i want some practice shots to get feedback on before the proper shoot.

What do you think? Funny old situation i know, but does anyone have any better ideas?

easy!

Mummy is taking daughter to the park for a day out so that daddy can (*enter whatever activity*). Take a pic in a public park or somewhere, easy solution, chances are you'll get a great pic that captures a really fun image. Magic!

just read that it's Daddy and daughter for pic not mummy and daughter.

Again, similar scenario - you're doing a project and it's gonna be quite big, you need a couple of "no pressure" practice shots, would they mind posing for a couple of pics, cause you need some like that in order to play around with your new (*insert phantom equipment here*) "it'll only take 10 mins" kinda thing, just insist that they're "nice" not in oil covered top and chewing gum in daughters hair, LOL

Well child shot can work still in the park but obviously not with Daddy, But then again you could use the excuse that you dont want the busy bodys accusing you of been a p***, so would all 3 go to the park for practice shots and get father and daughter together.

Personally i would love a shot especially in black and white of father working on the car as he would be doing something he loves and would show his character.

I dont see been greased up a problem i think these real world shots great.
All the best.

I agree with James_death maybe the contrast between a pretty little girl in her sunday best "going to see gran" clothes and daddy the grease monkey would be good. Maybe you could grab a shot of her passing a spanner or helping in some way.

Thats a good shout actually, i like that. Just got to work on him to do some work on it on the drive on a nice day rather than in the tiny dingly garage he has.

Cheers guys.

Get him to take her to the park for a play, then hide in the bushes with a long lens...
