So I was reading through a photography mag yesterday and thought, wouldn't this make a great iPad app. Imagine instead of buying the magazine you buy a subscription to the Digital Camera app (Or whatever magazine you buy).

They could really use the features of the iPad to make the magazine jump out. The images could be zoomed and rotated, images linking to videos on tutorials, voice clips next to images of readers - the possibilities are endless.

what do you think?

I think that's part of the appeal of such a device, what you are (sort of) describing, is erm...a web site :D?

I web site with a difference though, the additional interaction with the various photos / videos etc - could be awesome.

Gary.

well ish, but I was thinking that the app would download the issue when a new one is there so it's not loading in real time like a web page. It's also designed more like a program than a web page, kind of like when you stick the cd of a photography magazine in your computer, thats a very different experience than a web page.

Isn't this one of the points of the iPad. Try and muscle into the ebook arena and then colour magazines could be distributed by the itunes store on subscription.

Thats exactly what I mean, I think it will be awesome

What concerns me about ebooks, emags and the like is the DRM aspect. When I finish a book or a mag, I will very often lend it to my wife, give it to a friend or donate it to a charity. Do you think that will work with electronic media? And what then happens to public libraries? I don't see any of the content owners allowing their electronic versions to be tranferable and this alone will leave e-readers as gadgets and not mainstream devices.

probably be like all other apps you can install it on 5 devices so you can share it with 5 other people.

You can't read the ipad in the bath. You can with a proper mag.

very true.

You can't rotate 3d images with a proper mag, you can with a mag on the iPad.

Case in point, there are always advantages and disadvantages of both and for each advantage put forward there will be a corresponding disadvantage. The point is which has the most advantageous over the disadvantages for your need

Urgh, can we ban Joe from saying anything more about the ipad until its actually released? :P

Ha! can't help my excitement

you don't have to read it though! Perhaps the mods should change my tagline to "iPad freak"

OnOne software have a great App that allows you to use your iPhone to control remote shooting with your camera. OK you need to tether your camera to a computer first. Fine application but the screen on the iPhone is a bit small for what I would use it for. But as it seems iPhone Apps will port onto the iPad this might be a good option. Large screen previews and remote shooting, with exposure controls could be very useful and wireless to boot.

I think what people are hoping for more than this is tethered to the iPad, cutting out the need for a computer at all.

I think that I am the only person in the world that is looking forward to getting an iPad. My Macbook will go - but my Sony eReader, iPod and mobile phone will stay as I don't see that it needs to do everything.

I am trying to get my wife to agree to go to the states in a month just to be one of the first fanbois to get one.

you are a long way off being the only person in the world looking forward to it, pretty much everyone I know is looking forward to getting one, including myself!

Guy I know works for Kobo (eReader) developing apps for iPhones, and is very impressed with the iPad he's been given for development purposes. Looking forward to getting hold of one myself!

You understand that the difference between looking forward to it and hitting it with a stick is a bit of honesty?

You will not be popular with the press - and at work - they mock me.

plenty will mock my friend, but they are just unenlightened, they'll realise the error of their ways in time
