Possible Lens Fault? D700 & Sigma 24-70HSM

Yes
Have been getting some strange "jams" using my Sigma 24-70HSM (newer one) on the D700. Intermittantly, when trying to half press autofocus, the lens seems to jam, and an unusual symbol appears in the viewfinder window.

A small triangle, with a capitol F next to it - the manual says it references aperture stops from maximum indicator - the number next to it shows 95.

After this, I cannot get a focus lock. Shutting the power off releases something with a "click", and on power up all is well again for a while.

Has anyone experienced this? Would it be the lens or the body? Is it actually a fault, or user error - although I'm not sure I've done anything wrong!

Hope someone can help. Lens was purchased on a trip to HK last November, and the body from the UK. Back in HK next month, so can get it sorted then if needed, and it does sound like the lens.

Cheers, Bradders.

Try cleaning the electrical contacts on the lens and body, using a drop (or less) of contact cleaner on a lens cleaning tissue. That error message usually refers to a non-CPU lens, so it sounds like a lens-body communication problem.

I've got the same body and lens and not noticed any of these problems. Infact the Sigma is a damn good lens. I've also got the Nikon version and struggle to see the difference between the two. Perhaps the Nikon wins but only by a wiska!
