What I meant by it is that a polariser is often used to darken skies, as are red filters on black and white photography or film.
I appreciate that, but I still expected a cheap filter to produce at least similar results to a postprocessed red filter effect, which is essentially just a change in the brightness of the different colour channels of the image. I didn't expect the PP result to be _that much_ better. I'm not completely stupid, I have a HoyaHD filter on my lens normally.
I have also used a cheap (not quite 4 quid though) polarizer and I actually had decent results with it, so muuuh :razz:
