Yes
I've sold my A300 kit and I need to post it away, now I've been pondering how to do this and was thinking about boxing it all away in its box and then putting a 2-3 inch layer of bubble wrap before wrapping it in paper and posting is Special Delivery, do you think that would be enough?

Yep!

No!..... You need to pack the box inside another box.... Advice from Nikon when I recently send a camera to them for repair, it was returned in the same way.

and dont forget to make sure the insurance covers the cost

Jeez, 2 or 3 inches of bubble wrap is a fair amout!

I would pack the camera in its original packing. Then wrap the box in two or three layers of bubble wrap, then put this into another box and pack as necessary.

This is what I do when posting.

Although in the absence of another bos I use a couple of layers of the small bubble wrap then a couple of layers of the large bubble wrap.

Don't wrap in paper though, use a proper postage bag as paper can tear quite easily when it is around bubble wrap.
You might be able to get a special delivery carton or bag from your post office, mine do pretty big ones.

What Paddysnapper said!

Wrapping paper over bubblewrap will be wrecked in a heartbeat, then you have the nice camera box visible to all 'nosers'.

Camera box inside a robust box with plenty of brown tape is the only way and even if it is a 'PITA' to find a suitable box, make the effort, as the effort involved will be small compared to dealing with an unhappy buyer who has received a damaged camera box with contents that may, or may not be intact. Think how you would like the camera packaged and sent to you if you had bought it.

Also:- Fully insured RMSD = Peace of mind.:)

An added not about RMSD - they are treated very differently the normal post so while it is still wise to package it very well it is far less likely to be subject to the typical chuckings about normal post may get.

Reg. delivery for sure.... I used one with a tracking code, so I knew when it arrived at Nikon. That was good fun!

I tend to over pack items, in this case I would bubble wrap the main box, place this inside another box and pack any gaps with more bubble wrap and then secure it thoroughly with a roll or two of brown tape ;) I find it easier to go down this route than deal with RM should the item be broken upon receipt.

For the stuff I sold recently, I bought some boxes from staples, as well as some foam chips. Packed the kit in original boxes (where possible), and then placed in staples boxes packed with the foam chips. Lots of tape and RMSD.

A bit of a faf but it gets the kit there in one piece.

Talking in general here, there's no need to get any special post bags from the post office, or use paper over bubble wrapped items. A couple of black bin liners with brown parcel tape work well. You can even get thicker stuff for garden waste. (No....not for posting garden waste.........). The label goes inside a clear poly bag. I use food/sandwich bags - come on a roll.

i got a sigma 105mm macro lens from ebay, it was wrapped in a couple of inches of bubble wrap then placed in a box, arrived in excellent condition, and this is how id send if i ever sold it.

That's the method I use. Works well, recommended.

Buy a suitable size box from staples. Put camera and bubble wrap in one box. Place that box in larger box, then fill again with bubble wrap. Plenty of "Fragile" tape round the seams. Then Royal mail Special delivery. I packed my 1Ds Mk III this way to be returned to canon for A/F fix, as recommended by them.
