Looking through some of the uploaded pics and I notice how sharp and clear they are. When I downsize to the 200kb size limit the sharpness is completely gone and the image is very very soft.

Some of the pics are heavily cropped already so is there a pointer on how to rectify this or just get a bigger lens to get closer to the birds;)

I'm relatively new to photography and use a nikon d90 and tamron 70-300. I still do a bit of digiscoping aswell.

Thanks,

Gerard.

If your finding the forum gallery constraints to be a pain I would suggest that you use an outside hosting site, it seems that the vast majority of the membership use flickr, as do I and find it nice and easy and user friendly to use

other that are used

Pix.ie
photobucket
imageshack
500px

to name but a few all of which offer free accounts, some also offer paid accounts that have increased benefits and features

This however is not the correct section to post such a question so I shall recommend that a mod move this to the correct part of the forum

Welcome to TP :wave

Thanks, Still finding my way around, Only noticed the basic forum after posting this thread.

Gerard.

One way to make sure you are getting as sharp an image as possible is to carry out all your adjustments (including resizing) BEFORE sharpening. This should ideally always be the last step in your processing routine.

also after you resize them save as for web (photoshop adjust size to as close to 200 k) do not just save them

No, don't "save for web" as it'll strip off exif data from the jpegs. This data is always useful for others when viewing your photos to get some idea how they were created.

Always worth adding those details to description on flickr anyway, as i do, to save the viewer having to open another pop-up.

You can also set it to save the exif if you wish :D

Just like to add, Flickr and possibly some of the other pic hosts can cause the same 'downsizing' issues you are experiencing when they resize the pics for their system.
