I've go to do a "slide show" soon and am wondering whether to go for a Powerpoint presentation or a traditional slide show.

Most of the images are 35mm slides, but most have already been scanned. There are some which are only digital files.

Anyone got any suggestions/experience of the two ways of doing it?

cheers,

Assuming you will have access to a suitable digital projector etc; I think that Powerpoint is the way to go.

You can create a common border/background and put your details, the picture details or titles on each 'slide'. I have found that the range of dissolves; either on a time or mouse-click basis add a smooth, professional touch. you can also distribute the whole show to anyone else by burning it to a CD.

One little tip: I found that compacting the images once inserted into the show, reduced the size of the Powerpoint file considerably, without compromising the picture quality.

I have used Powerpoint photo presentations all over the UK, Germany, Italy and in Dubai without any problems.

Let me know if you want any specific info. I will help if I can.

Anthony.

Whist power point maybe easy to use and good for presentations, its only as good as the projector being used, some projectors can wash out the colours
and what will look presentable on a laptop screen (or other flat screen)
can looked very washed out through the projector, so my advice would be to check if the Projector is set up and colour matched to the laptop/PC, failing that and if you want to preserve the colours then use slide projection.

just my opinion from what i have seen, other readers may differ.

cheers
