Yes
Not sure if such things even exists but is there a way you can link a DSLR to the PC/Laptop so when you take the photo it pops up on the PC so it can be almost instantly viewed?

Thanks.

looks like you got canon 40d, if you have installed the solutions software that came with your camera, then what you need will be there you will find it under ....Start/canonutilities
not sure which one at the moment but will be trying myself in minute, if i suceed will let you know

Thanks for the replies, looks like one of the links are for Nikon only. :(

RKC- if you manage to get it working could you let me know how?

Cheers.

yep you use the eos utilities that came on the disk with you're camera. You can't pull it off the internet but you can do questionable things to online updates to make them stand alone if you don't have the disk.

I wrote a tutorial here for how to tether a canon camera and get it to auto import into lightroom, not 100% what you want but kinda similar

got mine working earlier, if you have installed the solutions disk software you should find it..

start/canon utilities/EOS utility

you need to plug your camera in via the usb lead, a box appears select eos utility,(at this point my camera is not recognised) so with the camera still connected follow the path from start and mine worked

have you got the CD's, there are two 1,software and 2,software manual....on no2 tells you how to use it, but if you anything like me i just started playing :D

update it from the canon website and you should be ok, not 100% why its not recognizing your camere

good point David, will try that

It works! Now trying to get it linked to Lightroom. Having a bit of difficulty.

No worries managed to get it working now!
Its awesome! Thanks guys!

To make this useful to others like yourself, it would be helpful if you could document what you did that made it work. :)

It turned out there was no real problem as such, I just missed out one of the steps in the tutorial when making the smart collection on Lightroom. :bonk:

I used to use the eos utility and had it set up to open the images using irfanview, worked a treat.
However it required creating a batch file **** i found a guide for at the time. I have since rebuilt my computer and being totally inept at anything computer related i can't get it to work again so i am back in the same boat as you.

This is the guide i managed to follow the first time round, if you do manke any sense of it please explain it back to me.

EDIT: Just saw you got it working with lightroom. Oh well.

For those without the tethered option on their camera's, you could invest in an Eye-fi card. They are reasonably priced and come in SD card format. (but can be used with a CF adapter)
They come with a program that easily sets up a wireless link through your wireless router straight into whichever program you want to use to veiw.
