Price rises - For Christmas?

About a month ago i toyed with the idea of buying a nikon D7000 body. At that time on camerapricebuster the cheapsest at a number of retailers was £790 - £820. Now the prices are significantly more - £900-£950.

Any views as to whether this is just a price hike for Christmas gifts or the exchange rate or short supply. At that price I think that i will have to continue dreaming.
 
The floods in thailand are causing short supply I think. It is the same with hard disks.
 
Thailand flooding is probably the main cause. There is not much supply out there and consequently prices go up.
 
Been buying bits and bobs from few camera shops and all have been saying that prices will definately go up if not before, then certainly after the New Year. And this has been said AFTER I've made the purchase - so wasn't just to try to make me buy the stuff :-)
 
I've noticed that too......was looking at prices generally and the D7000 certainly seems to have shot up significantly in price of late, supply and demand I guess.
 
Quite a steep incline. Now rather pleased to have picked up mine for 770 when I did!

Which is what they were pre-christmas last year, thinking about it weren't the bodies up around the £1100 mark?? As far as I recall the D300s and D700 were about the same price....the D7000 dropped by quite a large amount and has now crept back up again. D300s seems to of remained fairly static?
 
Its the problems in the far east regaurding flooding.
A small example is I was looking to buy a new hard drive, and the price jumped up £20. I was speaking to my IT guy at work about it and he said the flooding is causing massive problems and short supply. He said he looked at some hard drives that had risen in price by 270%!!!!!
 
Bit of both - after Xmas they can then have a sale with £100 off etc... Prices do fluctuate though - at some points last year the D700 was about £1450!
 
I have no further speculation to add, but I know I've paid pretty top whack for a canon lens recently (according to camerapricebuster).

Still, you need stuff when you need it - I figured if I hold off until I'm desperate it might have gone up more!
 
Its nothing to do with Christmas in the case of the D7000. I studied the price for weeks and weeks but was aware of the flooding. In a single week Jacobs/Jessops and many others had the price of their body only shoot up by £200 and body and kit by as much as £300.

I posted that amazon had bodies at £808.80 which although was more than the £750 that the body was at one time was far lower than anywhere else. Im afraid you have missed this too and stock is everywhere very low or out of stock.

I hope you get lucky and land one but in the short term I can only see stock levels dwindling further.
