Heard mixed comments about simplyelectronics. One member of our camera club received a lens in about 2 weeks. Another member bought the Sony A900 and they refused to answer his mails regarding its arrival. When he done a bit of investigation he done a google map of the address and it was in a housing estate. I think he eventually got his camera ( cant say it was from them)but after a major investigation from the credit card company.

Thats pretty usable eh! im going to try to release some funds i think.. i DID want to get the 1Ds or wait for the possible replacement, but i think this has to be the way forward.. Thanks for that mate..

Simply electronics stuff is quite often grey imports

They were very sketchy on where the kit was from when i was looking for my d3x. Ended up going with rgbtech who were excellent.

They did imply that if anything went wrong with the kit their inhouse techs would look at it, implying that the warranty wasn't valid.

All the cheaper and most of the not so cheap places are now OUT OF STOCK!!! bugga....

I got one for £1499 from Dabs on Christmas Eve (I reckon someone must have been on the sherry!)

If you want to risk it. I've seen Filter Fantastic do them cheap on Ebay..!

Well, i got mine from Amazon today for £1979, 10 mins later it went up to £2069. Jessops is always £2099 which isn't TOO bad in the current climate. Of course, compared to 6 months ago, it is awful. But then 6 months ago i didn't have £1.5k to even get it from Dabs.

Presumably the remaining UK stock will be snapped up with the imminent firmware upgrade, to make the 5D II fully manual full HD :)

hmm do we know when Canon will release new firmware ?

I have heard good and bad reviews of Simply Electronics and on that basis I would be reluctant to use them. There is a thread on one of the forums about a guy buying a lens from them for 3K + and not getting the delivery. don't know if he's received it since I saw the thread?

I had nothing but swearwords for them after my experience. They pretend to be a UK business selling genuine UK stock and in the end all their shipments are from HK directly to you. So not only you won't have manufacturer's warranty (UK one), you are also risking to end up paying customs and VAT knowing nothing about it. And as typical if/when the proble occurs, they are very slow and reluctant to resolve it (meaning it is quite hard to get a refund out of them).

I tried to get a Nikkor 50mm F1.4 out of them a year ago. Thought I was buying a genuine UK stock with Nikon UK warranty, just slightly cheaper than Warehouseexpress (was 15 quid cheaper actually). I was surprised to receive a package tracking details by HK Express (Hong Kong company) and started to worry slightly after that. Then when I got the lens it was without any Nikon warranty card (even international) and was backfocussing (nothing at wide open came out sharp at all). I sent it back to them (by some weird reason to their proxy UK address) with the covering letter and even sent the example shots I took of the focussing chart to prove it was back focussing (by email). And then the whole fun started with the refund. The main price was refunded but I had to go to "war" to get the shipment charges back - despite what their website policy stating clearly there. I got there in the end and managed to retrieve all the money I wasted on my attempt to buy with them but it was not a pleasant or easy experience.

In the end I think they I just a glorified version of HK sellers that you can see on eBay pretending to be something they not.
