Printer creating uneven white border - how do i fix this?

Hi - I have a Canon mp980 printer i use from time to time to print photographs. The photographs are not being printed in the centre of the page. I am finding that the white border on the side the paper goes in is smaller than the white border on the last side to go in.

I.e. i put the paper in portrait - the first edge to come out has a narrower border than the last edge to come out. The two side (long) edges have evenly spaced white borders.

Anyone know how to fix this?
 
It may be a number of things.

First check the page set up settings and see if the header and footer dimensions are the same. Also it may be that the format of the image may be too short to give a full size print. Look to see if there is "zoom to fit" option.

It also depends what software you use to print from, but check out the above first.
 
Hi chappers - i printed out of lightroom and the borders and margins were all set to be even. I did not choose zoom to fit because lightroom was set up to print on the 5x7 paper that i was using and was showing the picture to be in the middle of the paper :(
 
Looks like you are doing everything right. I print out of Lightroom and haven't had a similar problem with a correctly set up print template.

Have you measured the actual print itself to see it is printing the correct size?

Unfortunately I use Epson printers so I can't give you specific info, but check the page set up option within the LR print module, as this can override the template dimensions
 
Only thing I can think of is - are the paper guides in your paper tray flush against the side of the paper? Sorry if that's teaching you how to suck eggs!

As above, OR.......

.......you haven't ticked the "keep square" box.
 
Nah the paper guides are flush. The issue is not with the long sides anyway (paper in portrait mode). It is with the short sides. Paper guides being off centre would result in the long sides having different margins.
