Printer problem

I have a re occurring issue with a HP Photosmart C4180 printer, maybe someone can advise or has a similar problem.

When printing any photos at A4 size, about 2/3 of the way down a portrait oriented layout, their is a faint horizontal line about 10mm wide. It appears as though the ink has been blocked or applied much less dense. This is not a jet or alignment issue or anything to do with the paper as it has occurred on numerous colour and b&w cartridges and from Mac or PC.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks

Seeing the printing width of the nozzle is at most 18mm - if it was nozzle/jet related it would repeat more often than just once 2/3rds of the way down the page.

My guess would be a driver/spooling related problem. May I suggest re-installing the print driver or check if any later ones are available at HP?

Can you print from different applications. If so does this problem still occur?

First thing I would do is check you've the latest drivers installed.I don't think this is the problem as it occurs on two OS 's but you never know, and sometimes doing the simplest things can cure problems Then rerun the tests.

Also do you get the same problem when just printing text

Listen to the printer when it's printing, does the sound change when it gets the the problem area?

Oops - missed the bit about the 2 OSs. Still could be an inherent 'bug' in the driver development. Have you made any changes recently?

I've had situations where a new driver was faulty and the old one was 'less' so :(

I dont use a HP printer so not too sure, does it have a roller cleaning setting in the diagnostics? Try holdont the printer open while printing and watching what it does, you may need to use a bit blutack on the lid switch if it has one.
