Printers and the liquid Platinum

Yes
I have a Canon ip4500 for general print work and as per normal the liquid platinum that it uses for ink (It must be platinum at that price) is running low. I worked out that to replace all the tanks will be somewhere near £90. That is if I replace with genuine Canon Platinum. Normally I just bin the printer and get a new one for £45ish on the fleabay and keep my older tanks too. so half price, get a new printer and some spare ink.. Bargain.

But wait...I now find on aforementioned fleabay, 3 x replacement inks for..wait, you guessed it...£45. So what is non branded ink like? I have never really used it as I have pretty much thought it was an inferior product?

What do you think is the best bet?

For general printing compatible (non OEM) inks can be fine. For photo use I do prefer the original stuff. But to be honest I don't often print much now, I tend to get photobooks made up and the odd large print professionally done. I'd say it's worth a try anyway.

cheers

I see faulty printers every day that have been ruined by non genuine ink, just be warey, alot of them are fine, but alot of them will run all at once leaving a big mess over your paper and your printer!

Full set of Original Canon Ink for your IP4500 £50 from Amazon UK.

Of course the main reason I got my IP4500 is that you don't need to buy full sets, just the individual colour that is empty for £10 a time.

On my previous printers I have use compatible ink, but never again, I think it just knackers the printer over time IMHO.

Tried a compatible cartridge once and took it out PDQ. Colour was off, print faded fast and I'll never do it again. Yes, original, genuine carts aren't cheap but they do give way better results than compatibles.

Have a look at 7dayshop - a pack of the 3 colour carts is £29.99 with a CLi8Bk being £9.69 and a PGi-5Bk being £10.69. The pack of 3 colour carts comes with 50 sheets of GP-501 glossy photo paper, 4x6"

I use cheap cartridges for my brother printer (£3 per cartridge) and I have had no problem with them. Have never used genuine ink in my printer - it isn't worth it. I use inkemporium.com for my ink.

I've been reading with interest about the solid ink stuff coming out of Xerox - like their 8860 MFP, a cool £2,800.

30 pages a minute and the print cost is simply amazing, 10p an A4 sheet at 90% coverage and high gloss wax finish :)

Hopefully that will filter down to the domestic market at some point.

read the recommendations I made in a Printers question couple of days ago. Had same printer, any queries, ask.

I would second Jet Tec inks
many tests have shown them to be equal to or better than the originals.
you might need to adjust the profiles depending on the paper or printer you use. But that is true of all ink.
