Hi all.

I hope this is in the right place...

Anyway, what printer/paper/ink combination are you using?

I have 2 Epson 4800 printers, working pretty much constantly. I have always used Ilford Gallerie paper (sheet and roll) and Epson inks...custom profiled for different finishes, printing speeds etc

I am fussy when it comes to printed image - I detest 'bronzing' on digital prints, and whenever I have looked at other papers or inks, they seem to fall apart on this.

However, Ilford paper and Epson inks are rascal expensive, and they've just gone up yet again, for what feels like the 10th time in about 2 years, it's getting beyond a joke. I use a LOT of ink and paper, my throughput is in the region of maybe 2000 A4's a week, split between the 2 printers.

I am reticent to try a third party inkset - been there before with Lyson many years ago (the printers were Epson 1290's, and 2100's - anyone remember them?) and got supplied with a 'duff' batch of ink, which knackered the print head, the ink lines etc - it was a nightmare, took us an age to diagnose because you don't even suspect the ink, you assume it's a paper/print head/setting problem. I am not keen to recreate this situation.

I am hearing permajet inks are pretty good...anyone got any other suggestions/ideas I should be considering? Quality is paramount to me, and if I cannot get the quality I need, I'll have to stick with Epson and Ilford...just wondered if there are any worthwhile alternatives. Thanks all!

No real substitute for the real thing as far as inks go IMO. I use Canon printers (an oldish s820 and a newer iX4000) with genuine canon inks and a small selection of papers, mainly Ilford Galerie (green box) and Canon but also Lidl's own brand. I'm very happy playing around with papers since they're replaceable on a print to print basis but having once tried a compatible ink, I'll not make that mistake again.
