Probably a silly question but please help

As many of you know I have just got a my first SLR, a Nikon D 60. Quite often when I try to click the shutter button to take a photo it wont depress. I dont know why this is. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong or why it wont click.

i thought that might be the case, there is probably something restricting the photo being taken, it could be a number of things, from lack of focus to lack of light.

can you describe what you were trying to take a photo of and the conditions?

As Andrew says, it's probably when it can't get a focus lock. More info would be helpful though.

Ahh. That may be the problem.I was pointing it at a little spitfire far away in the sky the last time it did it.
