Problem with noisy IS

Just got canon 70-300mm 4-5.6 IS USM and when the shutter half pressed I can hear the IS working, is this normal?
 
I posted exactly the same question, as said in your other thread the first time I used it in the quiet I thought I had broken it and posted on here rather sharpishly :D
 
I've just sold mine on eBay and I just know the buyer will contact me asking this very same question if he doesn't know about the noisy IS on this lens...

Surely Canon could have made it a little quieter!? :D
 
hehe had the same question myself. Thought it was about to pop the whole thing.
