PROBLEM WITH SHUTTER EOS 1DS MARK III

Hi everyone! It's my first time on the forum.
Hope someone can share or have similar experience with me.

My EOS 1DS Mark III has been out for a shock accident.
After this incident I have a shutter problem. Shooting on faster than 1/640
the shutter get hang with message Err 30 Shooting is not possible.
Turn the power switch to <OFF> and <ON> again
or re-install the battery. I have tried this many times, also switched to different CF cards and SD cards, but problem persists. Canon says it is not repairable due to the accident. The camera is not under warranty anymore.Anyone that has I a better idea for me? Tkx!
 
I am sorry to hear about that.

It is now best to send it in to Canon and let them service it. There must have been some mechanic damage which needs to be sorted. Could be a shutter or mirror assembly perhaps - and they do happily replace those
 
Tkx for the quick response! Yes that's my opinion as well. I am just so surprised why Canon hesitate to check it out. Googling the Err message I find it is quite a common problem to many of the EOS cameras. But tkx for yr reply!
 
Is it insured? What kind of 'accident' was it?
I don't know why canon would say it's not repairable, sounds like it's functioning fine unless the shutter speed is above 1/640, so it can't be truly catastrophic damage to the camera's internals.
 
Hi, unfortunately the insurance didn't cover the accident. It fell/slipped out of the bag down to the concrete floor from about a ft above the ground. Yes it has no other dis-functions apart from this problem when trying to shoot on higher speeds above 1/640. Tkx for yr comment!
 
Yeah just make sure you take it to an authorised Canon repair centre. It probably won't be cheap but any part of that camera can be replaced and restored to full working order. As i said just make sure it's an authorised Canon repair centre.

Just to provide some kind of estimate for you, I got a quote for a mirror box assembly (supply & fit) for a 1Dc and it was:


Repair Cost £210
Parts £271.30

Of course there'd be VAT on top of that. My estimate included a new vertical release assembly but the guys said the cost of that was negligible so I dare say that'd be a reasonable estimate on what a new mirror box assembly will cost for yours. Good luck!

I would have though most policies would have covered that at the most basic level??
