Problem with step ring

Hi All,

I've bought a 62mm to 58mm step ring so that I can use my 62mm circular polarising filter on my 58mm diameter lens.

I can't get it to fit on. I can attach the filter to the ring, but then can't attach this to the lens.

Am I doing something wrong?

No I don't think it's that, it just doesn't look like it's the right size. It does say 62 - 58mm on the ring. Have I got it the right way round. Should i change:

A 58mm filter for a 62mm lens...or
A 62mm filter for 58mm lens.

I would have thought (trying to visualise this) the stepping ring would have an external thread at the 58mm side to screw into your lens and the 62mm side would be an internal thread so you screw your filter into the stepping ring.
 
Yeh I'm a numpty, bought the wrong one. This one is to fit a 58mm filter onto a 62mm lens. I need to step down ring, not a step up ring. Damn ebay!! I did type Step Down ring, but clicked the cheapest thing that came up, only £3 though, so not too much money wasted!!!
