Problems with Canon 20D

Not sure if this is the right forum for this as i've only ever been on the motorsport section, if not then please move to appropriate section.

Ok then, i've just been out to do some light trail shots over the motorway, after taking my shots I got back to my car and after I put my tripod down I accidentally knocked it over with the camera still on top. I now have some small dents next to the program wheel (whatever you want to call it, knob, switch, twisty thing).

Anyway this isn't the problem, the problem I now have is the camera turns on, but the red light next to the big wheel on the back (don't know what to call it!) does not flash when the camera turns on, however the camera is still on and I can change shutter speed and ISO etc but I can't view any images or bring up the menu on the LCD screen.

Another problem is when I half press the shutter release button the lens focuses as per normal but when fully depressing the shutter button, the shutter doesn't work, it does absolutely nothing.

Also when I switch the camera back to off, the data on the digi screen on the top of the camera remains on there but the camera doesn't do anything.

Is this the end of my 20D or can it be fixed?:shake:

Any help or info would be gratefully received.

Try changing the CR battery, should solve the problem.

See if the shutter release works with the lens set to manual focus. I had a problem with the focus mechanism on my camera and it wouldn't take the shot in auto-focus, it was convinced the shot was out of focus.

I've got a battery grip on the camera. Just messed about with the batteries and made no difference :(

The CR battery Flossyrockstar referred to is the small button battery in the camera body, will be to the side of where you insert grip / BP-511 battery. Hope you get it sorted

I know i'm being abit thick here (i'm a video man not a photo man!) but where can I get another one of them batteries? I took the old one out and put it back in but as expected this did nothing, just hope a new one will fix these problems :(

Have a look at the code on the battery and pop to Tesco / Asda or a camera shop and you should be able to pick one up

you can get CR2016 batteries pretty much anywhere - DIY sheds, Halfords, Boots, Maplins, Supermarkets....

assuming you can't get it fixed luke give me a shout, you can borrow mine for x-mas stages, and we'll discuss things away from the forum!

to be honest i dont think any amount of battery changing will help you, sounds like something has broken internally.

That's what I was thinking. I will try getting a new battery and see if that does anything (at least I have one spare then) if it doesn't work I'll just take it to a camera repair shop and see what they make of it.
