Problems with my 40D..

Yes
So, I've posted before about it not being able to connect to my Tab2, which another 40D in the same circumstances has been able to (firmware/Cables/Connectors.) but mine doesn't want to play. Fair do's I thought, I can live without that..

But now i see that although it will connect to my PC as a drive, it can't be recognised by EOS Utility or EOS Info.. LCD Just keeps flashing with 'busy'.

What cold be happening here..? What's wrong..?

I've tried rolling back to FW 1.0.8 (trying to connect but the same happens) and re flashed 1.1.1 and still the same..

HELP!?

Have you tried a complete reset back to factory settings on the 40D - if altering the firmware didn't help, it's possible it's one of the settings thats stopping it connecting ?

Have you un-installed all the canon software (not just EOS Utility) and re-installed the software on your pc ?

Have you updated the software from Canon web site to the latest version for you OS ?

I don't know if this was covered last time but theres 2 communication protocols on the camera.

Haven't got mine here to check but it's covered in the manual and would give that problem

Hey Andyred, cheers for the input :)

I have tried all that, reinstalling software on both the laptop and pc aswell as the programs on the tab aswell.. nothing works except the camera just flashes busy..

Phil V, interesting.. ill have a browse of the manual (should a man really do that..?) And ill see what i can find.. im guessing it should all be in the same section..?

Cheers guys :)

It could be a hardware problem in the camera, If all the firmware changes don't if anything .

Is connecting to your PC essential ?

I always use a card reader for image transfer

Hey All, no Connection Menu to be found on a 40D.. I'm just don a full reset, to see if anything in my settings has done something..

Strange thing is that another 40D worked straight out of the box and mine didn't.. Which is why I thought of Hardware changes or Revisions over the model production span..?

GothGirl, PC connection isn't essential, I can transfer from the CF card to my PC and my Tab through various adapters I have, I ust wanted to use DSLR Controller on my Tab for my 40D like i did with another from a shop..

Hi Ben

Just checked mine

Make sure you are on an advanced mode on the top dial (i.e. Av, Tv etc),

Then press Menu button, scroll across to the 2nd Yellow spanner, scroll down to the Video System and you have 2 options - PAL and NTCS I think), I think this is what Phil was referring to. Mine is set to PAL, think this is the right one, but I'm not 100% as it's a long while since I connected it directly...

Will have a loo later on if I get chance ...

Well, tried to switch to ntsc from pal and it worked..! Once..

Said a connection error and to unplug, turn camera off and restart dslr controller..

Then it wouldn't work anymore, tried switching back and forth with still nothing..

Im thinking of "swapping" the 40d now.. maybe try borrow the other 40d again and check it over, or buy one in my local shop and pop mine on eBay..

For some reason, i think its the camera's hardware/pcb at fault..

Ive had this problem with EOS Utility for over a year now nothing seem to fix it I have to start EOS Utility and then it picks up the camera

This was my next suggestion - have you started EOS Utility on the PC first and then connected the camera ?

If not, try the above suggestion in previous post...

Does the local shop have the 40D in you tried and it worked on your PC / Tablet ? If so, I wonder if they have a PC in their shop, that maybe you could try connecting your camera to ? Possibly clutching at straws, but at least this would say if it was your body or not for definite...

Might be worth a quick call to Canon @ Elstree to see if they can offer any advice ?

With regards to swapping your body, other than the connectivity, what are you going to gain by going for another 40D - could be a good excuse to maybe upgrade ?

Tried all of the above, EOS Utility will not pick up the Camera..

Only reasons to stay with a 40D are that I know this camera.. I know it's limitations and what I can do with it..

It's been donated to me, so they won't know it's a new one, plus it'll help me save for new lenses ;)

I'll take it down to the local specialist, see what they say.

Thanks all
