Problems with shooting raw in Canon

I hope someone can come up with a suggestion for me!

I own a Canon 1000d and have brought it with me on holiday. First day, I decided to shoot RAW + Jpeg. Changed settings - only jpeg showing on the laptop as opposed to having both. Was a little nonplussed so switched back to RAW only - ever since it seems to be stuck on producing jpeg.

Really can't work out what I could have done wrong or if it's a problem with the camera.

I've taken the battery out and replaced but that hasn't helped.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions as to what the problem may be, I'd be really grateful......shall I crack the 'your problem is, you're not using a Nikkon' first? :D

TIA

have you tried taking the CF card out and browsing the folders using windows explorer, just in case the RAW's were hidden away somewhere?

you could try and set your camera back to it's default status and see what happens a problem happened to me while on my hols it wasn't the same problem as yours, mine got stuck on the exposure compensation at+2 so i reset my camera back to default and it cleared ............

You do have the Canon DPP raw software installed on your laptop? Sorry I know it sounds obvious but easily overlooked.

Thanks for the replies!

I have been taking the photos from the SD card (taken out of camera) onto the laptop. I did have a bit of a look round teh folders but to no avail so far!

I could try setting back to default and see how that goes - thanks for the suggestion! :)

I don't use the Canon software but have never had this issue before.

Ah right. If you're using the same 3rd party raw software on the laptop that you normally use on your desktop with no problems, then you might need updated software? If you have an internet connection where you are see if there's later software you can download.

Thanks, CT, I do have internet connection so will try that (surfing from the local library at the moment, so it'll wait til later!).

When I first started with my DSLR I NEVER thought I'd be p'd off because I couldn't shoot RAW!!!

A really silly idea but here goes........

I'm pretty sure that on my 400D I can't shoot RAW in certain modes, Auto, sport etc.

Could it be that you've set RAW in a mode that allows you to but have since selected a mode where you can't?

My very thoughts!

Another distinct possibilty!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't use the auto modes on the camera. Shoot in P, Av and Tv most of the time. M hardly ever (well, to be honest, never!).
Appreciate the comments - thanks!!

The raw files are .CR2 files so stick that in a search of drive C and see if it turns anything up.

Without the codec the files will still show, but you wont be able to view them

Something else to double check, which I have done in the past. Once you have highlighted Raw in camera just make sure you confirm it with the "OK" if not it will just revert back to the Jpeg setting.

Just wanted to say a quick thanks for all of the replies. :)

Re-set camera settings and, whilst it didn't seem to take immediately, I am now able to shoot in RAW again! yay!
