Product Photography Equipment Advice Needed

Hi,

I am after some advice regarding what equipment I need for some basic product photography for sportswear. I am a novice photographer by the way!

I am looking to shoot photo's for a range of boxing gloves and similar martial arts training gear for a website that I work for; (www.mmafightwear.net).

We want to photograph a particular range in house, just stand alone products (no people in the shots), space is not really an issue and our budget is moderate.

It would be great if I could get a list of the basic equipment I need to set up a product photographing studio area (minus the camera and stand as we already have this).

At a guess... light tent?
One or more flash guns plus wireless remote (The one in my sig was 30ukp and has a broadcast/receiver - option to buy more receivers).
Tripod or light stand(s)
depending on whether you use a light tent, natural light/flash you might want some sort of material to put the gloves on.

And possibly one/two of those wooden posable hands ?


This is a guess tho as I have never shot products (would like to try tho).

Oh - does the client/customer have any ideas of what they want in the pics?
 
Don't bother with a light tent. They make everything photographed in them look really boring. I have fiddled about with them enough to discover this the hard way!

The lencarta product table at £50 is an essential. Plain white so can easily be used for cut outs.

Lighting it right is the tricky part.

Definitely need a tripod and either use the self timer or a remote release.

Thank you for the reply and the tips, the products just need to be on a plain background really, preferably white or a light grey. I'll have a look at the light tents you mentioned :)

Thanks too for the feedback, it's useful to get different opinions. I'll definitely take a look at the lencarta product table too. What's the benefit of using the self timer or remote release by the way too thanks?
