Hello, chaps. Just wondering if anyone can help me with something I'm doing for my photography portfolio. We have been tasked with a 1000 word essay on a certain aspect of this art. I'd like to look at aviation photography (being my main field of interest), but of course it isn't an obvious topic with mountains of information, so I was just wondering if anyone here knows books, websites etc with some more information on it (in terms of history, examples of professional portfolios and other information along those lines)? I have years of experience working with actually photographing aircraft in action but I'm unsure if i could translate this hobby and my enthusiasm for it into a worthy portfolio / essay piece. So I really need things like those I mention above.

I realise this is a pretty unlikely request and a stab in the dark, but any help would be greatly appreciated.:)

Why not focus on a particular aspect of aviation photography, three example themes:
1. contribution of photography to military aerial reconnaissance
2. Glamour in aviation though the still image
3. How to capture drama in the skies

Try:

A really good set of guys. The forum is pretty good for asking relevant questions regarding techniques.

The guys have sent me many shots of myself whistling through the Welsh Valleys.

Hope this helps.

Or gun camera footage :bonk:

Good luck with that! Its generally pretty grainy on most legacy aircraft and the stuff that you see on uTube is digitally degraded for security reasons.

An other study option might be nose art or Sqn colours.

Further to my inquiry. Can anyone name me some of the more famous aviation photographers. I know of John Dibbs, but no other obvious names spring to mind. There's a Japanese 'tog I'm thinking of too, but I just cannot remember his name, he does air to air work with all the major teams and air forces. Thanks for any more help.
