I've worn out the zip on yet another camera bag (this time a Lowepro), I probably do about 1 a year! Does anyone have any tips for keeping them going for longer, has anyone tried any kind of lubricant?

How about any brands of camera bag that seem to last longer than others?

The best lubricant for zips I have found is a soft pencil, something like a 2B. Just run the pencil along the zip. It doesn't attract dust like oil and makes even sticky zips, well, zippy!

Speak to Lowepro about this, they maybe able to offer some help - previous threads on here have said they have excellant customer service - a phone call can't hurt

Thats great advice, will try it out - now, where does my daughter hide her art pencils

technically speaking silicone spray is the 'right' stuff to use (it does not degenerate plastics like petroleum based lubes), i have heard of people using polish. I recently bought a can of silicon spray (for something else) from netto for just over £1 (it was with the car things).

I use silicon spray but I sqirt a bit into a jam jar (or similar) then let the propellant and solvent evaporate before wiping a drop or 3 onto the outside of the zip with a cotton bud. I do this when the zip is closed and let capillary action take the lube to where it's needed.
