(Proper) Camera Bag

Hi,

Was using my backpack but over the last week the zip failed and dumped my camera and tokina lens to the unforgiving concrete floor :/

So a proper camera bag is required, however looking in stores they seem too small and way overpriced.

Can any recommend a brand/bag and a place to get them around half the store price (so say 30-60ukp?) that can hold the equipment listed on the siggy?

Biggest lens is the Tair... weighs around a kilo or so too.
 
Lowepro Vertex 200 AW should fit the bill - backpack-type bag but very strong, well padded and weatherproof. Think it might be closer to £80 though, although you may pick up a used one on here. The Kata bags get good reviews, as do the Tamrac Expeditions.

EDIT: There is a Vertex 100 for sale in the classifieds (linky); should be fine for what you need. The only reason I got a 200 was to have two bodies, a 70-200 and flash equipment all in one bag.

Unfortunately your budget makes it difficult to buy any of the named backpacks. Considering your equipment, I would certainly want it well protected.

If you are prepared to spend about £120 then I can personally recommend the Lowepro Pro Runner 450AW. It is a BIG but very comfortable backpack that will hold pro bodies with a decent size lens with ease. It will hold the items you mention in your sig.

Lowepro make quality items, most of the bags have a lifetime guarantee. The Pro Runner, like all of their backpacks are customisable and offer a good amount of protection for our valuable kit.

Other makes worth considering are the Tamrac range of backpacks, which generally run slightly more expensive and the Think Tank range. However be prepared to spend considerably more for Think Tank.

Amazon do a range of backpacks which will fit your budget but they are not quite as well made and don't offer quite the protection that the others do.

Considering the amount of money you have spent on your kit, I would certainly up the budget and get something that will offer you years of great use, but thats my choice!

I've not used them personally but a chap I worked with got a result buying a Lowepro bag through the Amazon marketplace, i.e. not from Amazon themselves but through another retailer advertising on it. IIRC it was half the price that Jessops wanted for the same bag but this was a couple of years ago.
 
Should get most, if not all, of your kit in a LowePro Pro Runner 300AW -- (£50-55) at Park cameras or Warehouse Express if you go for Pine green

I have a lowepro 202aw and it costs about 45 in amazon.It is pretty good and you can carry easily 2-3 lenses +other accessories.

Had a browse through the ones in jessops, think they are lowpro 200 range and they seemed a little on the small side. But looked very nice.

I didn't see the 450 but will try to find one to see what they are like.

Think Tank make some amazing quality bags. The retrospective series are fantastic and are cavernous inside. The 20 will hold a gripped 7d, a griped xxxD, a 10 - 22/24 - 70/70 - 200/50 1.8/8mm Fish Eye and a 430EX as well as loads of other bits and bobs.

Weighs a fair bit though!
