Protecting camera and lens on the beach

I'm planning on photographing the seals in Norfolk soon. As I plan to photograph them by laying on the sand I'm worried about sand getting in my camera and lens. Being low to the ground will probably mean sand will be blowing around. I'm going to be using a nikon d7000, 300mm f4 lens and a 1.4tc. None of this is weather sealed so I'm worried about sand getting in. I've got a WWS rain cover to fit over the camera and lens but the open back means the sand could get in. I'm thinking I could put the camera in a plastic rain sleeve before I put it in the WWS rain cover.

I'm going to be driving there early morning to get there before sunrise, I'm worried there will be condensation issues as the camera will be sealed in a plastic bag going from the warmth of the car/camera bag into the cold morning air then back again.

I'm wondering how others protect there camera and lens in similar situations.

You'll find that a lot of the Norfolk beaches are closed (well, the ones with seals on anyway!) until February, while the seal pups are still very young.....I've been twice in December/January and had to stay on the dunes!!
