Protecting Camera in Isreal

Hi Guys,

I found out I'm off to Israel in July and I'm pretty damn excited.

I plan to take my 500D, but I'm worried about sand & dust getting into every nook and cranny, is there any way to protect the camera againced this? Or should i just invest in a point and shoot so no removable parts (apart from the lens cover, maybe)... and no sand should get in...

I've been in some pretty filthy places over the years with my 5D - India, Africa, deserts of the USA, Scunthorpe - and never had any problems. Even a sandstorm last month and no protection, and the camera survived. Just needed a clean with a stiff brush and a wipe down. A lot quicker and easier than it was getting the sand out of my own crevices.

So unless you're planning on encountering any sand/dust storms or are really reckless and careless changing lenses, I wouldn't worry about it.

Just keep your lens on until your inside somewhere, then it should be fine

Hahahahaa!!! That made me laugh! - Scunthorpe the fithyest?

Awesome, thanks mate! Will do, stiff brush as in the photography brushes which you blow air through? And Nice! haha, Nope i don't ill prob keep my 18-55mm on all the time, still take the telephoto.

Actually no. What I used was a toothbrush. It was all I had at the time, being in a motel room. If I'd been at home I would have used a small household paint brush - about half inch width - with the bristles chopped down to about half an inch [which I use to clean between the keys of my keyboard].

I always keep in my camera bag a small paint brush, a couple of small towels, and a couple of scarfs. Always keep them handy and never change lens while outside.

In the event that a sandstorm comes, I wrap my camera with the scarf; the towel is for wiping down any dew / moist that can accumulate due to heat / condensation; and the small paint brush to brush off any dust when I'm back home or sitting down somewhere for a cup of coffee.

A rocket blower and lens cloths are always good to have, to keep any dust / sand off the front of the lens.

Okay thanks mate, ill get some of them, im off to Jacobs to px a lens for a flash (hopefully) so i can pick up a lens cloth and rocket blower.
I'll get a scarf for the camera too then, just in-case!
