Hi All,

As my kit has grown in size I have come to realise that to lose it all in one go via whatever means would be a major financial hit so I better get some Phot Kit Insurance.

I am thinking, protection against loss, theft and damage in the home, away from the home and even whilst travelling.

Obviously there are a few Adverts out there that all offer the world but there is always that small print we never read that only comes to bite us in the ass when we try to claim.

So can anyone recommend a good insurance cover from first hand experience.

Add it to your home insurance?

I'm with M&S. Cover is unlimited and you only have to inform them about any item, set or collection worth £4,000 or more.

Cover away from home is optional and accidental cover is improved with their Premier policy, which I have. There's also Quidco cashback available.

It's one of the few companies that will cover my mountain bike (£2800) without adding an extra premium. I didn't even have to declare it, as it's <£4000. (Specific cycle policies are ott with their premiums.)

Of course, premiums vary with your circumstances. Even without the above benefits, they were the cheapest for my contents & buildings cover, but your mileage may vary. :thumbs:

I can appreciate the benefits of having a specific, separate policy for such equipment, e.g. making a claim shouldn't effect any NCB you might be enjoying with a home policy. But I found the combined cost of premiums was prohibitive and I've always preferred having stuff covered on my home insurance.

Have heard a lot of good comments for Glover & Howe. Have been with them for some time and they have been very helpful whenever I need to update my equipment list. Never had to claim, knock on wood!.
 
Don't insure with E&L!

We had a dog with them and they were right idiots!

I think it was a case of....we will insure your dog as long as you don't want to claim....if you do , please fill in a 2000 word report on why we should pay and please send a cheque for the excess and we will may pay you back up to 10% of the claim....

I think they like Shrove Tuesday.... t*ssers!
 
I've just signed up with Photoguard. Has anybody ever had to make a claim from them?
 
Many people have said good things about Aaduki. I signed up with them, very nice and easy, although not made a claim yet, so cant say how good/bad they are when it comes to paying out.
 
I once made a claim through Aaduki. All was sorted out without any fuss and I'm still insured with them to this day :thumbs:
