Hi,

I have several friends on our town council and they have been talking about getting a town website built. They will be wanting photo's as well.

Building the site is something that I can just about managed although it may require me learning one or two more languages. However, one of the ideas we have had is to have an area dedicated to the local police.

This would involve me going around with them taking photos of them dealing with trouble etc. If I take photos of the public in this situation can I publish it online?

Are there age restrictions on those that I can post? Any other info you feel I may need?

I find it stange that your local town council would want you to design a website for them! Even stranger is the fact that you will be allowed to escort Plod on their duties, taking pics of them nicking the local villains!

We had a website and forums before but it was badly designed and run and just died about 18 months ago. I stupidly asked a couple of friends in the pub about it and it kind of went from there. They know I have some web dev experience and have asked me to knock something up.

If I struggle I will just say I can't manage it.

As for the plod, our town although small has quite an issue with crime (drugs, drink & fighting mainly). I am currently in the process of becoming a special constable so I know quite a few of the local police and the councial reps think it would do their image good to have some photos of them out and about.

I can understand the logic but not sure if I will be able to manage it by myself tbh :(

Very intriguing......

Doesn't sound easy.

While there is usually nothing illegal with taking photographs of people in public, if you then publish them with the implication being that they have broken the law, you are in big trouble. Unless they have broken the law of course, and been convicted. That's why so many people filmed on those Police, Camera, Action videos have faces blanked out.

Basically, they are the ones who were not convicted. Sometimes it's everybody in the shot!
